A palace guard has died following an unauthorized horse riding event in Gumel Local Government Area, the Jigawa State Police Command has confirmed.
The incident occurred on Saturday, May 24, 2025, at about 5:30 p.m., when a group of youths, including Ibrahim Gwani and Goni of Gumel town, organized an unapproved horse riding procession that led to public unrest in the area.
According to police reports, the unauthorized event caused panic among residents, prompting the Emir’s Palace to send guards to intervene and disperse the crowd.
In the process, one of the guards, Abdulhadi Mana, was fatally struck by galloping horses.
He was rushed to the Gumel General Hospital but was later confirmed dead.

Police authorities say an investigation is underway, and efforts are ongoing to apprehend other individuals involved in the illegal procession who are currently at large.
The command has also issued a stern warning to the public against organizing events without official authorization, emphasizing the importance of maintaining peace and public safety.
