Former Attorney-General of the Federation and Minister of Justice Abubakar Malami (SAN) has lashed out at the chieftains of the All Progressives Congress (APC) for endorsing President Bola Tinubu for a second term in office.

APC chieftains, including the governors elected on the platform of the party, recently endorsed Tinubu’s re-election bid ahead of the 2027 general election.

Speaking at a meeting organised by the National Political Consultative Group (North) in Abuja on Sunday, May 25, 2025, Malami said the APC leaders were busy endorsing the president’s re-election instead of addressing the economic hardship and insecurity bewildering the country.

Malami, who served as AGF under the APC-led administration of former President Muhammadu Buhari between 2015 and 2023, added that Tinubu’s policies are crippling the economy of the northern region of Nigeria.

“Just a few days ago, the ruling party held its national summit and instead of addressing the serious issues of insecurity, economic hardship, and rising poverty, it chose to focus on politics, endorsing President Bola Tinubu as sole candidate for the 2027 election that is still two years away,” the former minister said.

Malami, however, urged stakeholders to form a united front to “reclaim” the country and create a peaceful and prosperous Nigeria.

Former Vice President Atiku Abubakar; the Labour Party (LP) presidential candidate in the 2023 election, Peter Obi; and former Minister of Transportation, Rotimi Amaechi; among others attended the event.
