The Nigerian Meteorological Agency (NiMet) has forecast thunderstorms and cloudiness across the country from Wednesday to Friday, May 30, 2025.
NiMet made this known via its weather outlook released on Tuesday, May 27.
NiMet predicted morning thunderstorms in parts of Taraba, Kaduna, Kebbi, Sokoto, and Zamfara States.
The agency stated: “Afternoon and evening thunderstorms are expected over Adamawa, Bauchi, Borno, Gombe, Kano, Kaduna, Katsina, Kebbi, Sokoto, Zamfara, and Taraba States.
“In the North-Central region, localised morning thunderstorms are forecast for Plateau, Nasarawa, Niger, Kwara, and the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), with afternoon and evening thunderstorms over Nasarawa, Kogi, Benue, Niger, Plateau, and the FCT.
“In the southern region, morning thunderstorms are expected over Ogun, Ondo, Delta, Cross River, Bayelsa, Rivers, Lagos, and Akwa Ibom States, with thunderstorms spreading to most places later in the day.

“On Thursday, morning thunderstorms are expected over Sokoto, Kebbi, and Zamfara States, with afternoon thunderstorms over Taraba, Adamawa, Kaduna, Gombe, and Bauchi States.
“The North-Central region will see mostly sunny skies with isolated thunderstorms in parts of Benue, Kogi, and Kwara.”
It said Friday’s forecast includes morning thunderstorms in Adamawa, Taraba, and Kaduna States, with afternoon storms in the same areas.
NiMet noted that the North-Central region would have sunny skies with clouds and localised afternoon thunderstorms in Abuja, Plateau, Nasarawa, Benue, and Kogi States.
NiMet warned that strong winds might precede thunderstorms and advised the public to take precautions such as fastening loose objects, avoiding driving in heavy rain, disconnecting electrical appliances, and staying away from tall trees.
The agency added: “Airline operators are advised to obtain airport-specific weather reports from NiMet for flight planning.
“Residents should stay updated through NiMet’s official channels or website.”
