Kaduna State Governor, Uba Sani, has revealed that he has not obtained any loans from local or international financial institutions since assuming office two years ago.
Speaking in Hausa during an interview with Kaduna-based broadcast journalists on Wednesday night, as part of activities marking his second year in office, Governor Sani said he has consistently rejected loan offers from various banks to avoid plunging the state deeper into debt.
To maintain fiscal discipline, the governor said he cut allowances and benefits for top officials, including the Secretary to the State Government and Commissioners.
“The Secretary to the State Government is a retired federal Permanent Secretary and a former consultant with the FAO.

“Some of my commissioners left well-paying jobs. I convinced them to forfeit performance bonuses and use official vehicles from the previous administration,” Sani explained.
He also highlighted how his personal and professional networks, built during his time as a human rights activist and senator, have helped attract grants from donor agencies rather than relying on loans.
One notable example is the Qatar Charity, which is currently constructing the Kaduna Economic City and a mass housing project at Millennium City.
According to the governor, these projects are nearing completion.
Governor Sani also expressed gratitude to President Bola Tinubu for supporting Kaduna State in addressing its financial challenges, along with other Nigerian states.
