The National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control (NAFDAC) has intercepted expired non-alcoholic beverages valued at N35 million in Kaduna State.
Speaking to journalists on Tuesday, Andrew Tamanuwa, Deputy Director of the Investigation and Enforcement Directorate at the NAFDAC Kaduna Office, said the operation was carried out following a tip-off from a concerned citizen on Sunday evening.
According to Tamanuwa, the informant alerted the agency about two buses and a Golf wagon loaded with expired drinks en route to Kwanar Dangora in Kiru Local Government Area of Kano State.
NAFDAC operatives quickly responded, intercepting the vehicles and arresting the owner of the expired products.
The confiscated goods included 700 packs of Schweppes and 300 packs of Fanta Orange.

Further investigation led NAFDAC officials to a warehouse located on Bayajidda Road in Kaduna, where a larger stash of expired beverages was uncovered.
The additional haul included 588 packs of Schweppes, 3,508 packs of Coca-Cola Zero Sugar, and 87 packs of Fanta Orange, all of which had expired in November 2024.
The items have since been evacuated to NAFDAC’s facility, where they will be destroyed.
Tamanuwa confirmed that investigations are ongoing to trace other individuals involved in the illegal distribution.
He urged the public to remain vigilant and report any suspicious products, especially during the festive period, to help protect public health.
Reaffirming the agency’s commitment, Tamanuwa assured Nigerians that NAFDAC remains dedicated to combating the circulation of expired and harmful products in the country.
