Bauchi State was thrown into mourning on Saturday, June 14, following the tragic death of Superintendent of Police (SP) Mustapha Garba, who died in a car crash while on his way to his own wedding.
According to a statement released by the Bauchi State Police Command, SP Garba, who was attached to the state command, lost his life alongside two of his friends in a fatal road accident that occurred at Bargan Tsamiya.
The incident happened while the officer was traveling in a Mercedes Benz with three companions. The vehicle reportedly lost control, veered off its lane, and collided head-on with an oncoming Opel Vectra.
“The command is in mourning. SP Mustapha Garba was on his way to attend his own wedding when the unfortunate incident occurred,” said CSP Mohammed Wakil, Public Relations Officer of the command.
Commissioner of Police, CP Auwal Sani-Omolori, upon receiving the distress call, immediately instructed the Divisional Police Officer of Toro Division to mobilise personnel for the emergency evacuation.
The victims were rushed to Toro General Hospital, where a medical doctor confirmed the deaths of SP Garba and two of his friends. Their remains have since been released to their families for burial.
The tragic loss has left both the police command and the wider Bauchi community in shock, turning what was meant to be a joyful occasion into a moment of deep sorrow.
