Kano State Governor, Abba Kabir Yusuf, has ordered the immediate renovation and revival of two abandoned bilingual colleges in Kwankwaso town, Madobi Local Government Area.
The move is part of his administration’s broader effort to strengthen international education and diplomatic ties, particularly with China and France.
The bilingual institutions, initially established under former Governor Rabi’u Musa Kwankwaso to offer instruction in Mandarin and French, had been left in disrepair by the previous administration.
Yusuf, during an unannounced inspection visit, expressed dismay over their dilapidated state and vowed swift action to restore them.
“These schools were created to equip our youth with global language skills crucial for Kano’s international identity.
“We cannot let that vision die,” the governor said in a statement by his spokesperson, Sanusi Bature Dawakin-Tofa.
He emphasized that the schools are key to advancing Kano’s economic and diplomatic interests on the global stage and announced a comprehensive renovation and upgrade plan.
As part of the initiative, the governor also introduced a scholarship scheme for high-achieving students of the bilingual colleges to pursue further studies in China and France.
The goal, he said, is to groom globally competitive graduates who can return to contribute to Kano’s socio-economic development.
Two students, Muhammad Bawa and Muhammad Warawa, lauded the governor’s visit and reforms, describing them as a major boost to their educational aspirations.
The intervention aligns with the administration’s vision to reestablish Kano as a leading center for education and international cooperation.
