The Academic Board of Kogi State Polytechnic, Lokoja, has withdrawn 273 students for poor academic performance and expelled six others for examination misconduct.
The development was confirmed in a statement issued on Monday by the Rector and Chairman of the Academic Board, Prof. Salisu Usman, following the board’s 120th meeting where it reviewed the 2024/2025 first semester results.
According to Usman, the affected students, drawn from 20 departments and 42 academic programmes, failed to meet the institution’s academic requirements despite access to adequate learning resources.
“The decision is part of the Polytechnic’s continuous efforts to uphold academic standards and discipline,” he stated.
Usman disclosed that six students were found guilty of serious examination offences, including impersonation and possession of prohibited items.
Two of the expelled students were from the Department of Business Administration and Accountancy, while the remaining four belonged to the Mass Communication Department.
He noted that the Central Examination Misconduct Committee, headed by Dr. Grace Ehimony, thoroughly investigated the cases and recommended their expulsion.
“The board approved the expulsions based on the committee’s findings, in line with the institution’s zero tolerance for academic dishonesty,” he said.
The rector reaffirmed the Polytechnic’s commitment to academic excellence and integrity and commended the board for its commitment to enforcing standards.
He also encouraged students to take full advantage of available academic support and remain focused on their studies.
