Tragedy struck in Oju Local Government Area of Benue State on Thursday as a 16-year-old Junior Secondary School 3 student, Friday Ogamude, allegedly beat his teacher, Mr. Oyibe Oyibe, to death during a dispute over a confiscated school cap.
The incident occurred at UBE Oju Centre, where the student reportedly confronted the 35-year-old teacher over a cap seized in May 2025.
The altercation escalated, and the student allegedly struck the teacher, causing him to collapse on the spot.
Mr. Oyibe was rushed to Amara Hospital, Oju, but was confirmed dead upon arrival by medical personnel.
His body has since been deposited at the General Hospital, Oju, for autopsy.
The Benue State Police Command confirmed the arrest of the suspect and strongly condemned the act, assuring the public that a thorough investigation is underway and justice will be served.
