The National Coordinator of the Federal Workers Forum (FWF), Andrew Emelieze, on Thursday, July 24, 2025, collapsed during his arraignment at the Federal High Court in Ibadan, the capital of Oyo State.

Emelieze, who has been in the forefront of agitating for workers welfare and payment of unpaid arrears of N35,000 wage award and other demands from the federal government, is being prosecuted by the Department of State Services (DSS).

The FWF coordinator was arrested by the DSS on July 3 and later released on administrative bail on July 17.

Emelieze was brought to the court by the DSS on a four count charge of alleged injurious statement against the federal government, threat to protest at the Presidential Villa, and declining DSS invitation.

The defendant, however, collapsed in the dock before the reading of the charge sheet.

Justice Nkeonye Maha immediately temporarily suspended proceedings to allow the defendant to receive medical attention.

However, when it appeared that the defendant could not be revived, Justice Maha thereafter adjourned Emelieze’s arraignment.

The judge said Emelieze has to be alive to face trial.

“His health is very important. Let’s give him time and the benefit of doubt,” Justice Maha said.
