Two former governors of Edo State, John Odigie-Oyegun and Senator Oserhiemen Osunbor, alongside other prominent political figures, have declared their full support for the African Democratic Congress (ADC), signaling the party’s growing influence ahead of the August 16 by-elections in Edo State and its broader ambitions for the 2027 presidential race.

The endorsement was announced during a high-level stakeholders meeting held at Oyegun’s residence in Benin City.

The gathering also featured former Senate Chief Whip Rowland Owie, Senator Ehigie Uzamere, and Hon. Sergius Ogun, a former member of the House of Representatives.

Speaking at the event, Owie revealed that the entire League of Democrats, a notable political bloc, has officially joined the ADC after months of deliberations.

“For the past three months, we’ve met every Thursday, and today I confirm that all members of the League of Democrats have agreed to join the ADC,” he stated.

“We are ready to lead this country, and I urge Nigerians to join the movement.”

Oyegun explained that the meeting was organized to update party leaders on recent political realignments and to formally welcome new members from other platforms. He announced the formation of a mobilisation committee to drive grassroots membership registration and strengthen the party’s presence across the state and the country.

“We are setting up a structure for effective and verified membership registration,” he said, adding that another committee would work closely with the existing state executive to coordinate party activities.

“We are bringing in fresh blood. We don’t want to displace those who have served the party, but rather complement and strengthen the movement.

In a few days, we’ll see the impact of this conversion,” Oyegun added confidently.

Osunbor, in his remarks, described the gathering as a “clarion call” for Nigerians to support a party that embodies transparency and credible leadership.

“The ADC is home to people of integrity who are committed to transforming Nigeria’s governance landscape,” he said.

With the backing of influential political figures and a strategic push for expanded grassroots support, the ADC is positioning itself as a serious contender in both the Edo by-elections and future national elections.
