The Federal Government of Nigeria has donated 100,000 cashew seeds and 2,000 cashew seedlings to Ethiopia, reinforcing bilateral agricultural cooperation between the two countries.
This was disclosed on Sunday in Addis Ababa by Mr. Stanley Nkwocha, Senior Special Assistant to the President on Media and Communications, Office of the Vice-President.
According to Nkwocha, the donation—enough to cultivate about 600 hectares of land—was received by Ethiopia’s Minister of State for Agriculture, Dr. Efa Boru. He noted that the gesture reflects a shared commitment to promoting sustainable agricultural development across Africa.
The donation follows a previous agricultural exchange in June 2025, when Ethiopia gifted Nigeria 2,000 Haas avocado seedlings and 2,000 coffee seedlings.
Nkwocha added that the initiative aligns with President Bola Tinubu’s Agricultural Transformation Agenda and underscores Nigeria’s “Green Revolution Diplomacy,” aimed at using agriculture as a tool for strengthening international relations and addressing food security.
Meanwhile, Vice President Kashim Shettima has arrived in Addis Ababa to attend the second United Nations Food Systems Summit from July 27 to 29, where world leaders will assess progress made since the inaugural 2021 summit and renew commitments to building resilient and sustainable food systems globally.
