The Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) has confirmed the killing of one of its officers, Superintendent Bashir Adamu-Jibril, by suspected hoodlums at the Shuwarin weekly market in Kiyawa Local Government Area of Jigawa State.
According to the command’s spokesperson, Badaruddin Tijjani, the incident occurred at about 1:30 p.m. on Monday while the officer was on official duty at the market.
Adamu-Jibril, who served in the Department of Intelligence and Investigation, was reportedly attacked at the market’s slaughter area (kara) during an attempt to apprehend suspected criminals.
Tijjani said the attackers, believed to be butchers, used machetes on the officer, fatally injuring him by striking the back of his head.
He was rushed to Dutse General Hospital, where he was pronounced dead by medical personnel.
So far, three suspects have been arrested in connection with the attack.
The body of the deceased has been prepared for burial in Kano, Tijjani added.
