Nollywood’s highly anticipated drama, The Serpent’s Gift, will hit cinemas nationwide on Aug. 29, producer Winifred Mena-Ajakpovi has announced.
Sharing the release date and trailer on Instagram, Mena-Ajakpovi teased the film’s suspense-filled plot with the caption: “Who can you trust when blood means nothing? Secrets surface. Loyalties shift. True colours begin to show. The storm is coming.”
Directed by Kayode Kasum and distributed by Nile Entertainment, the mystery-drama explores themes of love, family, and legacy. The ensemble cast features Chico Aligwekwe, Tina Mba, Stan Nze, Beverly Osu, Daniel Etim Effiong, Tracey George, Inem King, Ric Hassani, Uche Chika Elumelu, and Linda Ejiofor-Suleiman.
Set in Eastern Nigeria and steeped in Igbo traditions, the story unfolds after the sudden death of Nduka Sylvanus, a revered businessman. His young widow, Ijeoma (Ejiofor-Suleiman), unexpectedly inherits his vast empire—sparking tension, power struggles, and the unearthing of long-buried truths.
Shot in lush, tradition-rich locations with vibrant costumes and immersive visuals, the film blends the tension of a legal thriller with the emotional depth of a family saga.
The Serpent’s Gift has already earned nominations for Best African Film and Best African Actor at the prestigious Septimius Awards in the Netherlands.
