Two women, Ganiyat Adeyemo, 47, and Romoke Oladipupo, 50, were on Monday arraigned before an Iyaganku Chief Magistrates’ Court, Ibadan, for allegedly stealing N700,000 and an Infinix phone worth N40,000.
The prosecutor, ASP Sikiru Ibrahim, told the court that the defendants committed the offence on August 6 at Ojoo, Ibadan, where they allegedly stole a bag belonging to trader Oluwakemi Adeniji from Ogbomoso.
He added that the suspects were notorious for defrauding traders who came to Ibadan to purchase goods.
The offences, he said, contravened Sections 516 and 383, and are punishable under Section 390 (9) of the Criminal Code, Laws of Oyo State.
The defendants, who pleaded not guilty, were granted bail of N200,000 each with two sureties, one of whom must be a blood relation.
Magistrate M. Mudashiru adjourned the case till September 8 for hearing.
