Ogun State Governor, Dapo Abiodun

The Ogun State Government has declared Tuesday, August 20, as a public holiday to mark this year’s Isese Day celebration.

The announcement was contained in a statement on Monday by Governor Dapo Abiodun’s Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, Mr. Kayode Akinmade, in Abeokuta.

He recalled that the holiday was officially instituted in 2023 after a motion by the State House of Assembly and subsequent approval by the governor.

Akinmade explained that Isese Day honours Yoruba religion and traditions, noting that the holiday reflects Governor Abiodun’s recognition of the cultural and spiritual heritage of the people.

The day, he said, allows adherents to honour their ancestors, practise traditional rites, and promote the values of Yoruba spirituality, while also fostering unity and encouraging wider appreciation of the state’s cultural identity.
