A cleaner in Maiduguri, Borno State, Faiza Abdulkadir, has returned ₦4.8 million that was mistakenly deposited into her bank account.
Abdulkadir, who earns ₦30,000 monthly at a health centre, said her decision was guided by her fear of God and desire for peace of mind.
“The money was not mine. I wanted peace of mind and to avoid God’s punishment on the Day of Judgement,” she told journalists.
She explained that it took her three days to complete the bank procedures before the money was successfully returned to its rightful owner.
“I could not rest or eat properly until I returned it,” she added.

Neighbors and bank officials praised her honesty, describing her as a woman of integrity who lives modestly with her five children.
A bank staff noted that others in the past had misused such funds, causing problems for the institution, but Abdulkadir chose to act differently.
Her action has since been widely celebrated in Maiduguri as an uncommon example of discipline and integrity.
