Resident doctors in Kaduna State have resumed their indefinite strike after the state government failed to meet their welfare demands within the agreed timeline.
The industrial action, first declared in June 2025, was suspended when the Association of Resident Doctors (ARD), Kaduna State chapter, granted the government a two-month grace period to implement the 100 per cent Consolidated Medical Salary Structure (CONMESS 2024) and address other pending issues.
That deadline expired on August 31 without resolution.
In a statement signed by its President, Dr. Richard Daniel, and General Secretary, Dr. Yahaya Abdullahi, the association said the strike took effect from midnight, August 31, 2025.
“The failure of the government to implement the said demands left the congress with no option but to down tools and resume its previously suspended indefinite strike,” the statement read.
The ARD explained that it had shown magnanimity by extending the grace period beyond the initial two-month deadline of August 5, 2025, but the state government still failed to honor the Memorandum of Understanding earlier signed.
The doctors are demanding the full implementation and payment of 100 per cent CONMESS 2024, along with two months’ arrears.
Earlier in August, the ARD at Barau Dikko Teaching Hospital issued a 12-day strike notice to the state government after its congress unanimously resolved to press home the demands.
As of press time, there has been no official response from the Kaduna State Government.
