The Anambra State Police Command has uncovered and shut down an illegal juice factory operating in Okpoko, Ogbaru Local Government Area.
Police spokesperson, SP Tochukwu Ikenga, said in a statement on Sunday that operatives attached to the Rapid Response Squad, Awkuzu, raided the facility on September 3 and arrested its operator, 48-year-old Chigozie Okafor.
He said several fake soft drinks branded as “Iyi Obeleagu Juice” were recovered from the unlicensed factory, which had no approval from the National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control (NAFDAC).
Ikenga warned that the products were toxic and posed serious health risks to both children and adults.
The Commissioner of Police, CP Ikioye Orutugu, has ordered a full investigation to track down other collaborators and bring them to justice.
He also cautioned individuals involved in similar criminal ventures to desist, stressing that the command would not relent in protecting public health.
