Kano State Governor, Alhaji Abba Kabir Yusuf, has said his political future in 2027 rests solely in the hands of God, not any individual or group.
Speaking at the inauguration of the Shura Council at Government House, Kano, on Tuesday night, the governor recalled that many had written him off in the 2023 elections until what he described as divine providence paved his way to victory.
“Leadership is never in the hands of man. God installs and removes leaders as He wishes,” Yusuf said, according to a statement signed by his Director-General of Media, Sanusi Bature Dawakin Tofa.
The governor admitted that his rise to power came with great difficulty.
“I faced the most challenging period of my life after the 2023 elections.
“Through trials, tears, and turbulence, I remain committed to serving the people of Kano.
“I am here today only because of God, not any individual,” he said.
Yusuf stressed that his focus remains on projects that will improve the lives of the people rather than on political calculations.
“Whether I seek re-election or not, my duty is to deliver meaningful programmes that benefit the electorate,” he added.
Acknowledging the temporary nature of political power, he said: “I know that one day I will vacate this seat.
“That is why I am doing my best now to transform Kano physically, socially, and morally.”
The governor also expressed concern over the rising cases of drug abuse, thuggery, and other social vices among young people.
As part of measures to address the problem, he announced plans to establish a new reformatory institution for women to rehabilitate victims of drug abuse and related challenges.
He appealed to Islamic clerics to support government initiatives, noting their strong influence on the people.
“You are the only institution the people listen to with open ears,” he said.
Despite the challenges he has faced, Yusuf reassured citizens of his unwavering commitment.
“Challenges may come, tears may fall, but my commitment to transforming Kano is stronger than ever,” he said.
