A major power outage has hit parts of Kaduna South after a transmission tower collapsed in the Rigasa area of Igabi Local Government.

The Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN) confirmed that Tower No. 7 on the Kaduna Town Lines One and Two went down during a heavy storm, worsened by vandalism.

According to TCN spokesperson Ndidi Mbah, engineers discovered that critical components of the tower had been removed by vandals, leaving it weakened before the storm.

The collapse disrupted bulk power supply to several Kaduna Electric load centres, cutting electricity to thousands of homes and businesses.

To reduce the impact, TCN advised Kaduna Electric to connect its 33kV Mogadishu feeder to the 33kV Abakwa feeder, allowing partial restoration of supply.

However, not all areas were affected; Kinkinau, Yan Tukwane, Kabala West, Unguwan Muazu, and Kaduna North still remain connected to the grid.

A team of TCN engineers has since been deployed to clear the wreckage and commence re-erection of the damaged tower.
