The Sokoto State government has ordered an immediate suspension of all fee collections in public secondary schools across the state.
Commissioner for Basic and Secondary Education, Prof. Ladan Ala, gave the directive after setting up a committee to review concerns raised over school charges. He said the suspension will remain in effect until the committee submits its report.
According to the ministry’s spokesperson, Ibrahim Mohammad Iya, the affected fees include Parent-Teacher Association (PTA) levy, admission fees, testimonials, statements of results, and MSS charges.
Others are charges for Basic Education Certificate Examination (BECE) results and certificates, answer sheets, screening forms, Senior Secondary Certificate Examination (SSCE) fees, as well as NECO, NABTEB, and NBAIS certificates.
Prof. Ala warned principals to strictly comply with the directive, stressing that any violation would attract immediate administrative sanctions.
