The Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) has given the Federal Government 14 days to meet its outstanding demands or face a nationwide strike.
In a statement signed by its National President, Prof. Chris Piwuna, the union said the ultimatum was issued after its National Executive Council (NEC) meeting held on Sunday, September 28, at the University of Abuja.
ASUU listed its major demands to include the renegotiation of the 2009 agreement, release of revitalisation funds for universities, payment of outstanding salary arrears, and the establishment of a sustainable funding framework for the university system.
The union accused the government of neglecting public universities and failing to honour previous agreements.
“If at the end of the 14 days the issues are not addressed, the union may be compelled to embark on a two-week warning strike, which could be followed by a total and indefinite strike,” the statement warned.
