The Cross River State Police Command has apprehended three Egyptian nationals for allegedly assaulting a female security officer at the University of Calabar Teaching Hospital (UCTH).
The suspects identified as Mohammed Ayan (24), Mohammed Mohammed (40), and Ahmed Mohammed (20), were reportedly caught hawking household items within the hospital premises around noon on Monday, in violation of the facility’s regulations.
According to sources, Christiana Ada Ewa (34), a security officer attached to the hospital’s surveillance unit, confronted the men in an attempt to stop their activities. One of the suspects, Ayan, allegedly attacked her during the confrontation.
Ewa’s colleague, Ethan Ita Ansa (24), intervened, leading to a scuffle in which Ansa’s uniform was torn and he sustained a finger injury.
Ayan also reportedly sustained bruises on his right eyebrow and knees.
Police detectives arrived promptly at the scene and arrested the three suspects.
The case has been transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID) for further investigation.
