Former Vice President Atiku Abubakar has accused President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and his administration of institutionalizing forgery and deceit in public service, following the resignation of the Minister of Innovation, Science and Technology, Uche Nnaji, over alleged certificate forgery.
In a strongly worded statement issued on Tuesday, titled “Forgery as State Policy: Tinubu, His Cabinet, and the DSS Must Be Held Accountable,” Atiku described Nnaji’s resignation as an attempt to “whitewash another scandal” that exposes the “moral decay” within the Tinubu government.
Atiku said the minister should not have been allowed to resign voluntarily but should have been dismissed and prosecuted for falsifying documents.
He criticized the administration for allowing Nnaji to “quietly exit through the backdoor,” calling it further proof that the government is “an assembly of forgers and impostors masquerading as public servants.”
The former vice president also faulted the Department of State Services (DSS) for clearing Nnaji during ministerial screening, saying the agency failed in its due diligence and “made Nigeria a subject of global ridicule.”
He questioned how many other members of Tinubu’s cabinet might have similar credibility issues.
“This episode is not isolated.
“It is part of a pattern that begins from the very top,” Atiku said, alleging that President Tinubu himself has a long history of identity and certificate controversies, citing the Chicago State University saga and “multiple contradictory claims under oath.”
“When a man of questionable identity leads a country, deception becomes the standard of governance,” he added.
Atiku called for an independent and transparent investigation into the academic and professional credentials of all members of the Federal Executive Council, starting with President Tinubu.
He warned that until such a probe is conducted, Nigeria would continue to “sink deeper into moral decay, economic ruin, and global embarrassment.”
