A Nigerian couple, Dr. Emmanuel Joseph and Grace Akpan, have captured hearts online after tying the knot 18 years after meeting as teenagers in secondary school.
The couple exchanged vows on October 11, 2025, in Akwa Ibom State, surrounded by family and friends. To celebrate their remarkable love story, they recreated an old photograph taken in 2007, when they were both in SS1 — a gesture that has since gone viral on social media.
Sharing the emotional throwback and wedding photos on Facebook, Grace recounted how their friendship began in the classroom and blossomed into a lifelong bond.
“My SS1 lover till Jesus comes. He kept to his words. He told me I would be his wife — and today, that statement has become reality,” she wrote.
Grace recalled being drawn to Emmanuel’s “cuteness and intelligence” when he transferred to her school, adding that his persistence, charm, and warmth quickly won her heart.
“Everyone had something good to say about him. Back then, he didn’t let me rest — always smiling at me in class. I fell in love with him the first day he walked up to my locker and introduced himself,” she wrote.
She also shared how, despite fears of disappointing her family as a teenager, she chose to remain close to Emmanuel as a reading partner — a friendship that deepened over time.
Grace fondly remembered introducing him to her aunt, Ofonmbuk, who supported their friendship and offered them guidance until her passing.
“Dearest Aunty Ofonmbuk, thank you for always supporting us. You’re not here to witness our union, but I know you’re proud of us,” she wrote emotionally.
Reflecting on their 18-year journey, Grace praised her husband for his unwavering love and consistency.
“They say men are scum, but he has proven otherwise. Thank you for 18 years of undiluted love and understanding. It has always been you from the beginning — now let’s make it forever,” she added.
Photos and clips from their wedding and pre-wedding shoot have continued to trend, with many Nigerians calling their story “the true definition of lasting love.”
