President Bola Tinubu has received praise for his recent overhaul of Nigeria’s security leadership, described as a courageous and much-needed step toward strengthening the nation’s defence structure.
An Australian-based Nigerian Chartered Engineer, Olaoluwa Dawodu, who hails from Isan-Ekiti, lauded the President’s decision, calling it “a necessary move aimed at reinforcing the country’s security architecture.”
Engr. Dawodu, a specialist in Mechanical Design, Maintenance, Reliability, and Projects, urged President Tinubu to set clear performance targets and timelines for the newly appointed Service Chiefs, emphasizing that measurable results are essential in addressing insecurity nationwide.
While congratulating the new military chiefs, Dawodu encouraged them to justify the confidence reposed in them by upholding professionalism, discipline, and unity in the Armed Forces. He also advised the President to promptly replace any appointee who fails to meet established performance benchmarks.
“The Service Chiefs must prove their readiness to serve with honour and enhance the professionalism, vigilance, and comradeship that define the Nigerian Armed Forces,” he said.
President Tinubu recently announced sweeping changes in the military hierarchy, replacing General Christopher Musa as Chief of Defence Staff with Lt. Gen. Olufemi Oluyede, the former Chief of Army Staff.
He also appointed General Waidi Shaibu as the new Chief of Army Staff, Rear Admiral Idi Abbas as Chief of Naval Staff, and Air Vice Marshal S.K. Aneke as Chief of Air Staff, while retaining Major General E.A.P. Undiendeye as Chief of Defence Intelligence.
The appointments, announced by presidential spokesperson Sunday Dare, came weeks after reports of an alleged coup plot involving 16 senior military officers.
However, the presidency did not link the reshuffle to the incident.
Engr. Dawodu, who is also known for his philanthropic work, expressed optimism that the changes would mark a new era of efficiency and accountability in Nigeria’s security sector.
