The Chadian government has announced the immediate closure of its border with Nigeria, citing security threats amid rumours of a possible U.S. military operation in West Africa.
Military sources in N’Djamena said President Mahamat Idriss Déby Itno ordered a total military lockdown along the Nigerian border following intelligence reports that terrorist groups from northern Nigeria were attempting to cross into Chad.
Troops and armoured vehicles have been deployed across key border points, and the army has been placed on full alert.
President Déby warned that no armed group or foreign force would be permitted to enter Chadian territory “under any disguise.”
The border closure follows rising regional tensions and speculation over U.S. military movements in West Africa.
Security analysts say Chad’s action is a preventive measure to protect its sovereignty and block potential infiltration by militants taking advantage of regional instability.
