The Kaduna State Government says its long-standing collaboration with the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation has significantly strengthened the state’s health system and contributed to saving countless lives.
Deputy Governor, Dr. Hadiza Balarabe, stated this on Monday when she received a delegation from the Foundation at the Sir Kashim Ibrahim House.
She reaffirmed the administration of Governor Uba Sani’s commitment to further deepening the partnership.
Dr. Balarabe, a medical doctor, noted that the Gates Foundation’s work aligns strongly with Kaduna State’s values.
“The Foundation is driven by a deep belief in human dignity, and that resonates with us.
“Your approach reinforces our commitment to compassionate governance—one that listens, learns, and responds sincerely,” she said.
She explained that the Foundation’s investments have strengthened critical health systems, making facilities more dependable for families across the state.
According to her, the Foundation’s support for routine immunisation and targeted campaigns has played a key role in protecting children, while its contributions to disease surveillance have enhanced outbreak prevention and early response capacity.
“These efforts save lives and lay the groundwork for long-term human development,” she added.
The Deputy Governor also highlighted the Foundation’s role in building stronger institutions, improving data-driven planning, and enhancing service delivery to citizens.
She said the partnership has expanded access to essential services in remote communities and amplified the voices of mothers advocating for the survival and well-being of their children.
Dr. Balarabe reaffirmed Kaduna State’s readiness to sustain the collaboration, noting that it is improving structures ranging from the State Primary Health Care Board to accountability and transparency innovations.
She described the Foundation’s recent $3.6 million grant as a strong vote of confidence in the shared vision between both sides and welcomed the signing of the Kaduna Mutual Accountability Framework, which she said will promote transparent planning and measurable results.
