Panic broke out on Tuesday at the main gate of Ahmadu Bello University (ABU) Zaria after several rounds of ammunition fell from a moving passenger bus along the Zaria–Katsina highway.

The incident, which occurred directly in front of the university’s main entrance, immediately drew the attention of students and passersby.

An eyewitness, Musa, said the bullets dropped from a commercial vehicle heading toward Katsina.

“We just saw the ammunition fall from the bus as it passed the gate.

“Before anyone could react, the vehicle had already driven off,” he said.

According to him, bystanders quickly picked up the scattered ammunition and notified nearby security personnel.

A student who witnessed the incident described it as disturbing, saying many feared the ammunition could be part of supplies meant for bandits operating across Kaduna and Katsina.

Security operatives later arrived at the scene and took possession of the recovered rounds as investigations began.
