Katsina State Police have declared one of their officers missing after he reportedly took a service rifle and disappeared shortly after reporting for duty.
The officer, PC Ahmed Tukur of the Danmusa Division, signed out an AK-47 rifle (breech number 13492) for standby duty on November 23 at about 6 p.m., according to security analyst Zagazola Makama.
He left the station soon after and has not been seen since.
Efforts by colleagues to locate him, including visits to his residence and communication with family members, have so far been unsuccessful.
The Katsina Police Command has intensified efforts to trace the missing officer and recover the weapon, warning that the incident poses a serious security risk to the public.
