The Senate has confirmed the former Chief of Defence Staff (CDS), General Christopher Musa (rtd), as the new Minister of Defence.
Musa was confirmed as a minister after his screening by the lawmakers on Wednesday, December 3, 2025.
Speaking before the senators, Musa, who was recently retired as CDS by President Bola Tinubu, thanked the Nigerian leader for the nomination, just as he commended the National Assembly for what he described as a thorough and patriotic evaluation process.
The former CDS also extended gratitude to members of the Armed Forces and Nigerians for their continued confidence in his leadership.
Musa said: “I want to assure Nigerians that we are going to work round the clock to ensure the country is safe and secure.

“Security is a collective responsibility. We need Nigerians to support the security forces because nobody can do it alone. If you see something wrong, report it — action will be taken.”
He added that the senators’ questions were “on point” and reflected the shared commitment of all stakeholders to achieving lasting peace across the country.
General Musa’s confirmation comes at a critical moment as Nigeria continues to grapple with terrorism, banditry, kidnapping, and other security threats.
His appointment is expected to bolster the administration’s security agenda and strengthen cooperation among various defence agencies.
