The operatives of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) have arrested the former Minister of Labour and Employment, Chris Ngige.
The media aide to the former minister, Fred Chukwuelobe, confirmed this via a post on Facebook on Wednesday night.
Chukwuelobe, while reacting to reports that Ngige was kidnapped by unknown assailants, said the former governor of Anambra State is in the custody of the EFCC.
Chukwuelobe described the claims as false, saying the former minister was not abducted by gunmen.
He wrote: “I have been receiving calls in the past hour from friends and journalists seeking the veracity of the news making the rounds that His Excellency, Dr. Chris Ngige, former Governor of Anambra State and immediate past minister of labour and employment, ‘has been kidnapped.’

“Ngige is with the EFCC. He was not ‘abducted’ or ‘kidnapped’. More details later.”
However, the EFCC had yet to speak on the former minister’s arrest as of the time of this report.
The latest development comes after gunmen attacked Ngige’s convoy along the Nkpor–Nnobi road in Idemili North Local Government Area of Anambra State on November 27.
The gunmen killed a woman who was recording the incident and injured a police officer and other residents of the area.
