The Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN) has officially commenced the rehabilitation of two critical transmission lines in the Port Harcourt region, the company announced in a statement on Friday.

Contractors were formally mobilised during a handover ceremony to begin reconductoring works on the 38.6-kilometre Afam IPP–Port Harcourt line and the 20.8-kilometre Afam IPP–Elelenwo 132kV double-circuit line.

The General Manager of Transmission Services, Mr. Ali Sharifai, noted that the 12-month project is necessary to address ageing infrastructure, which has, over time, reduced wheeling capacity and affected overall transmission efficiency.

Mr. Akpa Emmanuel, General Manager of Transmission for the Port Harcourt Region, explained that both lines are vital for evacuating bulk electricity generated from the Afam Power Plants into the national grid.

He added that the upgraded lines are expected to significantly improve the reliability and stability of power supply across the region, ensuring enhanced service delivery and better support for regional electricity demand.
