The Kano State Police Command has arrested a notorious armed robbery suspect, Abba Aliyu, popularly known as Abba Fiya, following a distress call reporting an armed robbery incident in Hausawa Quarters, Kano.
The suspect was arrested on December 21 by operatives of the Command’s Anti-Daba Unit while responding to the emergency report.
According to a statement issued by the Police on Monday, the swift action was in line with the directive of the Inspector-General of Police on prompt response to distress calls.
Abba Aliyu, 26, a resident of Dala Quarters, was apprehended on the directive of the Commissioner of Police, CP Ibrahim Adamu Bakori.
A sharp knife was recovered from him at the point of arrest.
Police said the suspect confessed to participating in several armed robberies and violent daba rivalry clashes within Kano metropolis.
He reportedly admitted involvement in criminal activities in areas including Gobirawa Gangare, Dala and Tudun Fulani Mayanka Quarters.
Further investigations allegedly linked the suspect to violent crimes beyond Kano State.
The Police disclosed that he confessed to carrying out armed robberies that resulted in deaths, injuries and loss of property in Kano, Rivers and Lagos States.
The Command said investigation is ongoing and assured that the suspect would be charged to court upon completion of the probe.
Commending the officers involved in the arrest, CP Bakori urged residents to continue supporting the Police with timely and credible information.
He also encouraged members of the public to report emergencies through the Command’s emergency lines or the Nigeria Police Force “Rescue Me” application to enhance security across the state.
