The 2025 Eyo Festival, also known as the Adamu Orisha Play, has begun in Lagos with lively and colourful processions as crowds of residents, visitors and spectators gathered at Tafawa Balewa Square on Saturday to witness the cultural event.
The festival — famed for its striking white-clad Eyo masquerades, chanting and energetic dancing rooted in Yoruba tradition — drew large numbers to the venue, transforming the area into a vibrant celebration of heritage.
Distinguished guests expected to attend include President Bola Tinubu and his wife, Senator Oluremi Tinubu, as well as Lagos State Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu and his deputy, Kadri Hamzat.
The Eyo Festival, last held in 2017, is among Lagos’ most iconic cultural events and serves not only as a celebration of tradition but also as a showcase of the state’s rich history and identity.
