The Nigerian Association of Resident Doctors (NARD) has warned of another nationwide strike, accusing the Federal Government of failing to implement key aspects of an agreement reached to end the last industrial action.
NARD announced this via a post on X on Sunday, December 28, 2025, expressing frustration over what it described as the government’s continued disregard for timelines agreed in a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) signed after weeks of negotiations.
The association recalled that it called off its 29-day indefinite strike on November 29 after the federal government pledged to address its demands within four weeks.
According to the resident doctors, that deadline is fast approaching, yet most of the commitments remain unfulfilled.
The resident doctors warned that unless the outstanding issues are resolved within the remaining days, they would have no choice but to embark on a total and indefinite strike, a move that could once again cripple medical services nationwide.

Among the unresolved matters listed by the association are the reinstatement of affected resident doctors at the Federal Teaching Hospital, Lokoja in Kogi State; payment of promotion-related salary arrears; and the reintroduction and implementation of specialist allowances.
NARD also noted delays in the resumption and conclusion of collective bargaining agreement negotiations, unresolved entry-level and skipping issues affecting appointments and salaries, as well as persistent salary arrears owed to house officers.
The association added that committees on locum appointments and work hours are yet to begin their assignments, despite being part of the signed agreement.
Emphasising that its earlier decision to suspend the strike was taken in good faith and in the interest of the public, NARD urged the federal government to act swiftly, warning that time was running out and that failure to honour the agreement would force doctors back to industrial action.
