A tragic incident occurred on Tuesday in Birnin Kebbi, Kebbi State, after part of a private rice mill abruptly collapsed, killing one worker and leaving five others trapped under the rubble.
Rescue teams, including the Kebbi State Fire Service and other emergency responders, are currently battling to reach the victims buried beneath twisted metal and debris, with operations ongoing into the night.
Deputy Governor Senator Umar Abubakar Tafida led a government delegation to the mill for an on-the-spot assessment, assuring that every possible effort is being made to save those still trapped.
He stressed the importance of prioritizing workers’ safety and pledged continued government engagement until the rescue mission is completed.

A project engineer at the site confirmed that one employee died instantly in the collapse, and that five others were believed to be trapped underneath as of Tuesday night.
Authorities have not yet determined the cause of the collapse, and a full investigation is expected to begin once rescue efforts conclude.
