Troops of the Joint Task Force (North East), under Operation HADIN KAI, have disrupted a significant illicit drug supply network supporting terrorist activities in the region.
On 23 January 2026, acting on credible intelligence, troops arrested Hauwa Abulazeez, 65, in Askira Uba Local Government Area of Borno State.
Preliminary investigations suggest the suspect was a key supplier of cannabis sativa to Boko Haram elements operating across Askira Uba, Rumirgo, Gwahi, Wamdiyo, Uvu, and Gaya, and played a central role in distributing the drug to several communities in the area.
During the operation, 14 compressed blocks of cannabis sativa weighing approximately 30 kilograms were recovered.
Investigators indicate that the suspect sourced the illicit substance from Sarti Baruwa in Taraba State and transported it through established supply routes.
The suspect remains in custody as follow-up investigations continue to dismantle the wider trafficking network.
Lieutenant Colonel Sani Uba, Media Information Officer for the Joint Task Force, emphasized that the interception deals a major blow to criminal networks that fuel violence and instability in the North East.
He added that Operation HADIN KAI will continue intelligence-driven operations to deny criminals the resources and freedom to operate, reinforcing security and lawful authority in the region.
