Nigeria was thrown into widespread blackout on Tuesday morning following another failure of the national power grid, the second in less than a week.
Data released by the Nigerian Independent System Operator (NISO) revealed that electricity supply to all 11 distribution companies (DisCos) fell to zero megawatts by about 11:00 a.m. on Tuesday, January 27, 2026.
The sudden collapse disrupted power supply across the country, leaving homes, businesses, and public facilities without electricity.
This latest incident comes barely five days after a similar grid failure.

The Eko Electricity Distribution Company (EKEDC) also confirmed the latest system collapse via a statement issued on Tuesday.
The DisCo stated: “Dear Valued Customer, kindly be informed there was a system collapse at 10:48 a.m. which has resulted to a loss of power supply across our network.
“We are currently working with our TCN partners as we hope for the speedy restoration of the grid. We will keep you updated as soon as power supply is restored.
“Kindly bear with us.”
