The Oyo/Osun Area Command of the Nigeria Customs Service (NCS) has recorded seizures worth over ₦2.7 billion and exceeded its 2025 revenue target, reflecting what officials described as improved enforcement and compliance within the zone.
The Acting Customs Area Controller, Deputy Comptroller Wale Adewole, disclosed this during his maiden press briefing at the command headquarters on January 29, 2026.
Adewole said the seizures were the result of intelligence-led operations, sustained patrols and coordinated enforcement across key flashpoints in the command’s jurisdiction.
“In the discharge of our statutory responsibilities, the command recorded remarkable seizures of prohibited and uncustomed goods through credible intelligence, surveillance and strategic operations,” he said.
Items intercepted include foreign parboiled rice, used tyres, premium motor spirit, second-hand clothing, pharmaceutical products, foreign spaghetti, compressors, illicit drugs, smuggled vehicles and other prohibited goods.
He warned smugglers to desist, describing their activities as economic sabotage and threats to public safety.
On revenue performance, Adewole revealed that the command generated ₦8.37 billion in December 2025 alone and surpassed its annual revenue target by more than ₦13.1 billion, representing a 15.22 per cent increase.
He attributed the feat to improved compliance, enhanced monitoring systems, professionalism among officers and sustained engagement with stakeholders.
“We remain committed to facilitating legitimate trade while safeguarding government revenue,” he said.
The acting controller also stressed the importance of collaboration with other security agencies, noting that inter-agency cooperation is vital for effective border control and enforcement.
He commended the Comptroller-General of Customs, Adewale Adeniyi, for his support, and appreciated the Oyo State Government for its cooperation with the service.
Adewole said the briefing underscored the command’s commitment to transparency and public engagement, adding that efforts would continue to strengthen enforcement, boost revenue and promote lawful trade.
