Residents of satellite towns in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) are expected to benefit from major economic and infrastructure improvements as FCT Minister, Nyesom Wike, unveiled an extensive road development plan targeting underserved communities.
Wike disclosed this while speaking with journalists after inspecting ongoing projects in Karu, Karshi, and the Bwari–Kubwa axis on Friday. He said the initiative follows a presidential directive to build a strategic and resilient road network that extends beyond Abuja’s city centre.
According to the minister, the renewed focus on satellite towns is aimed at addressing years of infrastructure neglect and unlocking economic potential in rapidly growing areas.
A key project under the plan is the long-delayed Apo–Karshi Road, which had stalled for years. Wike said the contract was terminated and re-awarded to SCC Construction Company to fast-track completion.
“Because of the importance of that road, we couldn’t wait any longer for progress. Work has now started in earnest,” he said.
He also expressed satisfaction with ongoing road reconstruction in Karu handled by local contractor Abdul Val Construction Company, praising the quality of work.
Another major project is the 16 to 17-kilometre Bwari–Kubwa Road, expected to ease traffic congestion and boost commercial activities along the corridor. Wike said the road is scheduled for completion before the end of the year, alongside several other infrastructure projects across the satellite towns.
The minister further directed the National Commission for Civic Awareness to carry out landscaping and environmental upgrades in Karshi and neighbouring communities to ensure holistic development.
Wike noted that improved road networks would enhance mobility, attract investments, increase property values and improve living standards for residents, adding that the projects align with President Bola Tinubu’s Renewed Hope agenda.
With multiple road works underway, the FCT Administration said the drive marks a shift toward more inclusive development beyond Abuja’s city centre.
