Operatives of the Oyo State Police Command have arrested a 65-year-old man, Ibrahim Raheem, over the alleged repeated indecent assault of a six-year-old girl in the Ayegun area of Ibadan.
The arrest followed a complaint detailing how the child was allegedly targeted on several occasions in December 2025 while hawking goods around the Onikeke neighbourhood.
In a statement on Sunday, the Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Ayanlade Olayinka, said the suspect has been taken into custody and reportedly admitted to indecently abusing the minor, although he denied engaging in carnal knowledge.
Police said the victim was immediately taken to a hospital for a comprehensive medical examination and is receiving socio-psychological care to help her recover from the trauma.
Given the sensitive nature of the case, the Commissioner of Police, CP Femi Haruna, ordered that the matter be transferred to the Command’s specialised Gender Desk for discreet and professional investigation.
According to the police, the unit is trained to handle cases involving minors and sexual violence with the required expertise and confidentiality.
The command reaffirmed its commitment to protecting vulnerable children and ensuring that offenders are brought to justice, while urging residents to continue providing credible information that can aid security efforts.
“The Oyo State Police Command remains steadfast in its commitment to protecting vulnerable children and ensuring that perpetrators of such crimes are brought to justice,” the statement said.
Residents were advised to report emergencies through the Oyo State toll-free line 615 or the police control room numbers 08081768614 and 07055495413.
The suspect remains in custody as investigations continue.
