The Lagos State Government has announced a partial closure of the Lagos–Abeokuta Expressway to allow rehabilitation works on sections of the road.
The four-week closure, which begins on Wednesday, February 11, 2026, will enable the Federal Ministry of Works to carry out repairs along the corridor.
The Commissioner for Transportation, Oluwaseun Osiyemi, disclosed this in a statement shared on Tuesday via X, noting that the rehabilitation will cover the stretch from the U-Turn Bus Stop to the Sango Tollgate, affecting both inbound and outbound lanes.
According to him, the project will run until Wednesday, March 11, 2026, and will be implemented in two phases to minimise traffic disruption.
Phase One, scheduled from February 11 to March 4, will affect traffic heading toward Abeokuta. Vehicles travelling from Lagos and Abule-Egba inward to Abeokuta and the Sango Tollgate will be diverted to one half of the carriageway, about 20 metres away from the active work zone.
Rehabilitation will be carried out one lane at a time. After work is completed on one section, traffic will be redirected to the repaired portion while construction continues on the other half. Motorists on the Lagos-bound carriageway will experience free flow of traffic during this phase.
Phase Two, which runs from March 4 to March 11, will affect Lagos-bound traffic between Obadeyi Bus Stop and Ekoro Junction. Vehicles travelling inward to Lagos will similarly be diverted to one side of the road, away from the construction zone, with traffic restored once works are completed.
During this period, motorists heading toward Abeokuta will continue to enjoy uninterrupted movement.
Osiyemi assured residents that adequate traffic management measures would be put in place throughout the project. He urged motorists to plan their trips ahead, follow traffic signs and cooperate with traffic officials, while appealing for patience during the repair works aimed at improving road conditions.
