Former Vice President Atiku Abubakar has paid a visit to ex-Kaduna State Governor Nasir El-Rufai after a failed attempt to arrest the former minister in Abuja, the nation’s capital.
El-Rufai had, through his lawyers, accused security operatives of attempting to unlawfully arrest him at the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport in Abuja, following his arrival from Cairo, Egypt, on Thursday, February 12, 2026.
His lawyers described the move as a violation of the former governor’s constitutional rights.
Sharing pictures from his visit to the former governor, Atiku condemned the attempt to apprehend El-Rufai by “partisan ICPC”.

“Last night, I paid a solidarity visit to the former Governor of Kaduna State and stalwart of the African Democratic Congress (ADC), Mallam Nasir El-Rufai, following the failed attempt by the partisan ICPC to arrest him at the airport upon his arrival in the country,” Atiku wrote on X on Friday.
