The National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control (NAFDAC) has sealed 18 warehouses in Bida, Niger State, following the discovery of expired food and beverage products valued at over ₦100 million.
According to a statement by the agency’s Resident Media Consultant, Sayo Akintola, the warehouses were shut during a raid conducted by NAFDAC’s Investigation and Enforcement team after receiving credible intelligence.
Akintola said the operation led to the recovery of about 80,000 packets of expired non-alcoholic drinks, 5,000 packets of dairy milk, 16,000 packets of bottled water, 28 cartons of pasta and several other expired items, some of which had already been packaged for distribution.
He added that managers of the affected warehouses belonging to BY Ventures were arrested for questioning, while the company’s Managing Director, Yusuf Nadabo, was invited for interrogation and reportedly admitted ownership of the expired products.
The statement further revealed that additional expired goods and suspected counterfeit Goya oil were discovered at two supermarkets linked to the operation, prompting NAFDAC to seal the outlets as part of its enforcement actions.
