The Police Service Commission has approved the promotion of Assistant Inspector General of Police, Fayoade Adegoke Mustapha, to the rank of Deputy Inspector General of Police.
The decision was taken on Friday after the senior officer excelled in the commission’s written examination and oral interview process.
Fayoade, who joined the police in 1992, brings more than three decades of service to his new role. Prior to the promotion, he served as the Assistant Inspector General in charge of Zone 2 Command in Lagos, where he gained recognition for community policing efforts and coordinated security operations, including the dismantling of a kidnapping syndicate popularly known as the “Billionaires” gang.
His career has attracted several recognitions both locally and internationally, including security and crime-fighting awards across Africa and beyond.
Chairman of the commission, Hashimu Salihu Argungu, described the promotion as a reward for professionalism and dedication, urging the new Deputy Inspector General to see the elevation as a call to greater responsibility.
Argungu expressed confidence that Fayoade’s experience in technology-driven policing and collaboration with stakeholders would contribute to strengthening national security.
The Police Service Commission, headquartered in Abuja, is responsible for the appointment, promotion and discipline of officers of the Nigeria Police Force, excluding the Inspector-General, and also sets policies aimed at improving the efficiency of the force.
