Troops of Sector 2 under Operation Desert Sanity V have neutralised 15 terrorists and destroyed a suspected logistics base during a precision raid around Gujba Local Government Area in Yobe State.
Military sources said the early morning operation on February 22 followed weeks of intelligence gathering supported by satellite imagery and intelligence, surveillance and reconnaissance air platforms, which identified the location near Lamusheri village as a launch point for attacks and a logistics hub.
According to the sources, troops working alongside members of the Civilian Joint Task Force came under fire while advancing on the target. The forces reportedly outflanked the insurgents, cutting off escape routes during the engagement.
In the ensuing firefight, 15 terrorists were killed, while several others fled with suspected gunshot wounds.
Security personnel discovered extensive defensive structures at the site and destroyed life-support facilities used by the group. Five tricycles and two vehicles allegedly used for attacks and supply movements were also destroyed and set ablaze.
Items recovered from the scene included a cache of arms and ammunition, along with two bandoliers and carmel pouches.
The military said two personnel sustained gunshot injuries during the operation but were in stable condition. Authorities added that while the security situation in the area is currently calm, it remains unpredictable, noting that troop morale and combat efficiency remain high.
