The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, has commended President Bola Tinubu over the peaceful conduct of the Area Council elections, saying the outcome has clarified for Nigerians which parties represent the ruling government and the “real opposition.”

In a special broadcast aired on national television and radio on Sunday, Wike described the elections as a demonstration of residents’ commitment to democracy and good governance.

He said the exercise also exposed what he called the hypocrisy of some political actors, accusing them of engaging in symbolic campaign gestures aimed at deceiving voters. According to the minister, FCT residents showed they could not be swayed by what he termed “emergency democrats” who focus only on criticising government efforts.

Wike thanked the president for what he described as visible development across the territory, noting that the election outcome reflected Tinubu’s leadership and the administration’s Renewed Hope Agenda, which he said has boosted public confidence.

He congratulated political parties and candidates that participated in the polls, particularly the All Progressives Congress and the Peoples Democratic Party for their victories in various area councils, and urged winners to serve residents with humility and dedication.

The minister also praised the Independent National Electoral Commission for conducting what he described as a free, fair and credible election, while commending security agencies for ensuring a peaceful process.

Wike called on residents, especially those in satellite communities, to continue supporting government efforts to deliver development and democratic dividends across the FCT.
