The Minister of Defence, Christopher Musa, has directed the service chiefs to visit the North-East and North-West regions to review and strengthen ongoing military operations against insurgents and bandits.
Musa gave the directive during a meeting with the service chiefs in Abuja on Wednesday, March 11, 2026.
The minister’s media adviser, Timothy Antigha, disclosed that the service chiefs are expected to assess the situation on the ground and submit reports on their findings after the visit.

The move comes amid renewed attacks by terrorist groups targeting military formations and personnel in the region.
On Monday, Islamic State West Africa Province (ISWAP) members reportedly killed a commanding officer of the Nigerian Army during an attack on a military facility in Kukawa Local Government Area of Borno State.
About a week earlier, suspected members of Boko Haram and ISWAP attempted to overrun military positions at Ngoshe in Gwoza Local Government Area of the state.
